Report From Sylvia

Hi all,

I spent some time with Leslie once again the  week of Dec. 5 and she is doing real well.  She continues on her 3-week cycles of weekly chemo treatments, is pretty well pounded by the effects for a few days then bounces back to normal. Energy levels are of course quite low and, when  she disappears every once in awhile we know she’s grabbing a catnap.   A few of the things we did together: wrapped some Christmas gifts, watched “Love Actually” (while Bill was at work since that is a 100% chick flick!),  ran some errands, and had a roaring good time on a SKYPE call with Bob Stetson.

Here is a picture of Leslie and the “Healing Hands” bed coverlet which was made for her by friends from St John’s Episcopal Church in Montclair. You can’t quite see it in the picture but each hand is personally signed with some words of encouragement.  It’s a cheery sight to behold!

Leslie will have a CT scan in late December to see where things stand since the first one done in the early days of her diagnoses in August.  She is already considered a ‘poster child’ for being a diabetic with pancreatic cancer… maybe there will be some more hopeful news by the New Year.

Merry Christmas to all!
Sylvia

  2. I love this healing hands coverlet, and I really do feel comforted when I'm sleeping under it!

Christmas and New Year's celebrations were wonderful - Christmas in Piedmont and New Year's in Woodland. I continue to feel good, am tolerating chemo treatments and drug regimen well, and find that taking naps when my energy begins to flag is the best way to manage my situation at this point. One or two naps a day pretty much keeps me in good shape, and those are pretty short naps. The rest of the time is "business as usual" -- grocery shopping, running errands, enjoying tea and cookies with friends, reading good novels, watching Masterpiece Theater with Bill on Sunday evenings, and spending time with family. I have no idea how much time I have left on my Life Clock, but the ride around the dial has been interesting, full of surprises (both good and bad), and always colored with the love of faithful friends. I love you all. Please keep loving me back as we all move forward into this new year, OK?

  3. Leslie, I am so glad for these wonderful words from you. One day at a time, and one hand at a time (per the coverlet), you continue to inspire -- and cheer! --us all. I'll be thinking of you during all those "little moments" (grocery shopping, tea with friends, etc.) that you have enriched, even at a distance, just by being you. And I'll especially be thinking of you & Bill when Downton Abbey starts up again! Much love as we enter the new year --Your piano-mate, Ann
